Local Beaches

The shingle beach of Weston is located between Sidmouth and Seaton on the East Devon coast. This place is only accessible via a long hike down a track or by the sea. It has become a popular beach among naturists, who frequently frequent it. It is not the most obvious choice for nudists due to the coarse pebbles and shingly sands.

On the right-hand side of the beach, naturists generally have the right of way, although a sign referring to this seems to have caused some controversy. Aside from the limited access to the beach and its location, there are no facilities here. Within a few miles are those in Sidford.

If you head toward Lyme Regis, you'll probably end up at East Cliff beach. There's a stretch of beach just past Church beach that's probably the quietest in town. East Cliff Beach doesn't have much in the way of facilities or a backdrop, unlike the other beaches in Lyme Regis. Rather, a sea wall supports a promenade leading to the beach. You might not be able to get back this way if the tide is in when you walk to Charmouth beach.

It would be best to be careful when walking past the cliff faces along this part because they're prone to rock falls and mudslides, especially during winter storms. They're also known as the Spittles and are a great fossil hunting spot.

You can access the beach from the Charmouth Road car park, but note there are 100+ steps down (and back up!) to the beach.

You may be throwing sticks, balls or other aerial toys your dog loves, but keep your eyes open for those famous fossils! Who knows, you or your dog may unearth another rare dinosaur from millions of years ago!

Walks and Trails

Again from Seaton Esplanade, the South West Coast Path runs west to Beer and Sidmouth or east to Lyme Regis and beyond. With 630 miles to explore, walking through Seaton could be the perfect start to something you may wish to continue on further holidays! You may think of the French coastline and rural backdrop when you see the pretty coastal village of Beer with its flotilla of little fishing boats. Along this part of the Jurassic coast, you can walk from Beer to Branscombe and see some amazing scenery. There are tall white cliffs and lots of wildflowers on the way.

Dogs and their owners love it. Outside of Sidmouth is a pleasant riverside walk. There is a dog-friendly parkland area at "The Byes". You can let your dog off the lead by following the paths through Margaret's Meadow. Margaret's Meadow has a gate leading down to the river on the right-hand side.
