Star Cottage is a quaint and cosy pet friendly seaside cottage lovingly designed for up to 4 people and their four legged friends. The interiors are warm and comfortable with sofas, hearth rugs and a wood burning stove for the colder evenings. It may be quaint but it also has all the necessary mod-cons including Wi-Fi and a HD TV. Finally the exterior spaces are great for dogs and owners alike. The private front patio with table, chairs and potted plants offers a great space for breakfast with a sea view.

Another one of our dog friendly cottages in Shaldon is Little River View Shaldon. This modern and comfortable bungalow has stunning views down to the Teign Estury and beyond to the village and rolling hills behind. It is complete with a fully equipped kitchen, modern bathroom with seated bathtub and a flat screen TV, Wi-Fi and DVD player. Yet what makes this cottage so great for guests and their pets is the grounds. There is a large private garden at the back of the property and a front patio with BBQ facilities and river views.

Hygge House is a luxurious and high-spec pet friendly holiday home that has everything you and your dog could possibly wish for. The two bedrooms both have king-size beds and ensuite bathrooms. The living room has a smart TV, Sonos surround system and various board games. The kitchen is fully equipped with top quality furnishings. There’s even a patio with dining table, chairs and a BBQ with sunset views over the Teign Estury.

Beaches and Walkways

Although Shaldon is fairly small it has a length of beautiful coastline with many pet friendly beaches and coves to be discovered. Shaldon Beach and Ness Cove Beach are two of the most popular dog friendly seafront spots in Shaldon. Plus there are many more in a very close proximity to the Shaldon Parish including Watcombe Beach, Teignmouth Town Beach and Dawlish Town Beach.

If you and your pooch are looking for something beyond the beach then Shaldon’s coastline is a brilliant launching point for several walking routes. The Shaldon and Stokeinteignhead walk follows a 5.5 mile route that follows the coastal path from Shaldon heading west and then loops inland through Stoketeignhead and finishes back where it started. The walk has sea and pastural views as well as plenty of pub pit stops too.

History and Culture

Homeyards Botanical Gardens is a pet friendly attraction that gives visitors a slice of Shaldon’s history, culture and horticulture. The gardens were initially founded in the 1920s by Maria Homeyard and remain steeped in the family’s personal history. At the time the gardens were a trendy spot where the the Homeyards would regularly entertain guests in the summerhouse. Today the gardens offer interesting plants and flowers as well as a crumbling castle ruin and the enigmatic witch’s cave. Situated on a hill high above Shaldon the gardens also boast jaw-dropping views of the village and sea below.

Where to eat

After a day of exploring you and your pooch are sure to be keen for a spot of refreshment. Shaldon is home to many pet friendly eateries, pubs and bars. The Shipwrights Arms is a pet friendly pub that offers locally produced sea side pub food and real ale. They also host many music and quiz nights as well as offering several traditional pub games.

Another dog friendly spot for a sit down and refuel is the Clipper Cafe. This cafe/bar has a large indoor dining area and a generous outdoor decked area overlooking the neighbouring bay. During the day they serve all the usual sandwiches, burgers, breakfast and light bites. In the evening the menu changes to high class pub food with local sea food specialities including seafood stew and fish pie.
